I'm opening at Starbucks tomorrow and Wednesday. Urgh, definitely not my cup of tea but at least I will be getting home earlier, right?
Friday we have our store meeting about the new Christmas drinks. I have to say the Caramel Brulee Latte was somewhat of a let-down. The special caramel syrup is great, way better than the normal, but other than that the drink just doesn't seem to live up to my expectations of a snazzy, super awesome holiday drink. Peppermint Mocha, on the other hand, continues to be an awesome, year-round classic. :D Plus, it gets chocolate twirls on the top for the holidays!

Not to sound depressing, but I keep thinking about what my purpose in life is. Yes yes, how melodramatic and such, but really. I feel that I have so much potential and so much room to develop, yet I haven't found the right outlet where I can apply my whole self and fulfill my need to continue learning and developing. I feel stunted... D:
I am keeping an eye out for volunteer opportunities on base to help this feeling. I think volunteering will make me feel satisfied and happy. I like to give to people and I love being part of a team that puts together things that impact other people's lives. Hoorah!

So, for Christmas this year I decided to make my own cards. I've sketched out my ideas and bought the supplies, now I just need to get it done. It's crazy how fast time has passed! I'm also planning on baking cookies to give out, then putting them in self-decorated boxes. Yay for a craft Christmas, right?
If I remember, I'll post pictures of the final products before they get sent out.

Recap
It's been a while since I updated, so I thought that I'd give a recap of all that's happened. Surprisingly, it was my hair dresser that reminded me I should post today!
Since I last posted I got a job at Starbucks as a barista. I work around 30 hours each week, and though the hours can sometimes be a bit painful, the work is good and I enjoy it. It's been hard these past two weeks though as Ross has had to work nights and we only have one car.
We're all moved into our new townhome and now get to watch the ones across the street being built. It's fun, at least until the workers wake us up at 8am. :)
It's really surprising that it's already November. Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner, which could be good or bad. I am hoping for a laid back holiday season, which I think we will have. Ross's friends from CA are heading over for Christmas, and it will be fun to meet them. The only thing I don't look forward to is figuring out what kinds of presents to get everyone. I like my gifts to be meaningful, and sometimes it's just really hard to find one that fits!
I am hoping to take graphic/web design classes at Weber next semester. A co-worker tells me he's already been signing up for January, so I guess I better get on that. I just hope I qualify for resident this time. $2,000/3 credit hours is insane!

Situational ADD?
Procrastination is horrible, ugh! Usually I have a slow start on my Hilltop Times articles, but this week's are just...bad somehow. I think it is because most of them didn't have much information or quotes. Not much to work with.
Actually, the one I'm working on now has an inundation of information and maybe one quote. Still difficult. Quotes are great because they break up the information and add personal interest! Must have more!
Anyway, everything is moving along OK this week. We've got most of our stuff packed--there's a huge mound of boxes against the wall. Tomorrow is Ross's last day of ALS plus his parents are coming over. Thursday he graduates, and Friday we get legally married. Woohoo!
Ross also found out today that he will be headed to Afghanistan. I would have preferred Korea, but he prefers Afgh. because he feels he will have more of a purpose there. I can understand that.
I also decided I will be retaking my AFOQT early next year. Time to brush up on those crazy high school math skills. It was never my strong suit, so this will be difficult and challenging.

Wrenches
So I believe I've written about Ross deploying. Well, now he's gotten orders to go to Korea, as well. At the same time.
It made me laugh a bit, because it seems even the government can be super disorganized. Well, I guess that is a given for most people, because it seems that anyone I talk to isn't surprised when the words "government" and "disorganized" pop up in the same sentence. Can you imagine what a thorough cleaning out and organizational "treatment" would do to this country?
It seems, however, that his original deployment to Afghanistan will take precedence. Goodbye, dreams of traveling abroad. Oh well, it is his career, not mine. I just hope he comes back to me safe and sound.
Speaking of coming back, he proposed last weekend. . .with a Ring Pop! Cherry flavored, of course. I said yes. We are getting legally married on the 18th and plan to have the ceremony when he returns from deployment, probably around Thanksgiving of next year. What a lot of planning I get to do. It will definitely keep me busy.
Along with wedding planning, I am also trying to put myself out there more and apply for more jobs. I love working for the Hilltop Times, but I really need a full-time occupation to keep myself busy. I also need friends. Sounds depressing, but since I moved here I really haven't managed to meet anyone that I would call and hang out with, yet. Sure, I've met some great people, but I don't feel that close, yet. Got to work on that.

Decorama!
Ross decided we're going to go ahead and get the townhome. It's exciting! It will be the first house for both of us, and now we get to plan out decor, colors, etc! :D
I'm probably going to search out some episodes from HGTV's design shows. I love those...
Well, I'm going to bike down to Tai Pan Trading and see if I can find anything nice. Hope my legs are up to it!

A House We Can Call Home
Ross and I have been busy trying to view our options for housing when he gets back next year. So far we've toured two places, aside from the fluke we toured a while back, which I'll probably have to recount later.
Place A was a batch of typical apartment homes, except for the fact that we viewed the floor plan that included a loft. As always the model home looked great, the only thing that really bothered me was the stairway up to the loft area. It was a metal, circular set of stairs that wound around in a tight circle. They were steep, too. I was sitting there wondering how we'd get big pieces of furniture up there, not to mention that going up and down just to reach the rest of the apt. (bathroom included) would probably be somewhat a pain.
Other than that, Place A was nice. I don't mind apartments as long as they're nice and have been kept up, so I reserve my full judgment until we see a space that was actually lived in. That is, if we'll go back to see it at all...
You see, Place B was a model of the set of townhomes that are being built nearby us. Yeah, sure, first glance doesn't give them too much merit. They are all smushed up against eachother, located on the highway, and some of them even have a view of the college that sits right beside them. However, after a tour some of that initial reluctance was pushed aside.
Obviously the townhomes are new, which means no one has lived in them before and managed to ding up the place. That's always a plus for me, I love new things over used most of the time. I know, I'm picky. But anyway, all of the floorplans were the same, which was fine. It was a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath plan with a 2-car garage. Even though the townhomes aren't ginormous (1400 sq. ft.), they were laid out nicely enough that there is a wonderful flow of space. Nothing felt cramped or smashed into the floor plan.
The other nice part is you're allowed to purchase upgrades. I don't think Ross and I would go overboard with this if we did end up purchasing one of these, but they are nice options to have, such as:
We aren't rich, but the market is prime, plus there are some other great reasons to buy in that area. It's right next to the base, downtown, schools, the college, and will be right next to a new commercial center that hasn't been built yet. Ross and I are thinking that would make it easier to sell if we wanted, or even to rent out if we had to move bases. The other thing that tells me it's a nice location is the fact that people have already moved in and the development has basically just been started. They're nowhere near finishing!

Sad Face
Ross got his deployment orders last week. He will be heading to Afghanistan early next year for around 9 mths. ): This makes me one sad panda.
We're trying to spend a lot of time together before he goes. Also hitting up the gym every day which is great for me, I really need it. I just wish it wasn't this particular reason that was causing us to go.
Not much else going on yet. Still job searching and such.

Portfolio
I've started redoing my online portfolio, also titled "Eccentriffic". Unfortunately, it might take a lot longer than I thought to actually get a custom design out there, because Geocities decided it is going to stop hosting free websites this October.
Wait, what? I don't understand why they would do that, really. Here is their statement:

So here I wait for a steady income so I can purchase my own domain name and web hosting service. Guess my visions for a new site design will have to wait. ):

Legs...Move Them?
My legs are telling me how much they hate me for what I did to them yesterday. Still, some part of it all feels really good, and I'll definitely be continuing to exercise the hell out of them. Sorry, legs...
Sigh...I got a medical bill in the mail when I came back from my trip to NM. It's very frustrating to pay $100/mo for insurance, then have an $81.00 doctor's fee for a simple consultation that I end up paying over 1/2 for. I am hoping that if Obama's insurance plan gets pushed through, I can find something better.
My mother thinks the government-run insurance will come with extras, kind of like fishing up a prize fish with some tin cans and an old boot attached. I can foresee this, but I'm hoping it doesn't further screw everyone over in regards to health care.

Get Fit
Getting in shape is going to be harder than I thought. I went to the base gym with Ross and ran about 3/4 of a mile, then did some leg exercises. Afterward, I felt horribly light-headed, so I had to lay down on the couch in the gym and again outside on the grass.
I'm home now, but still feel icky. My legs feel like rubber, too. Guess my body is reprimanding me for letting it get out of shape in the first place. ):

Starting Fresh!
Well, since my pal Aaron decided he didn't want to pay for his site anymore, which was hosting my portfolio, I've moved over here to Blogger. Thanks for letting me sit on your web space for so long, Aaron. :D
For now, I'll just be writing, but later on I'll work on updating with links to my portfolio, which includes writing, design work, and art. I'll also see if I can tweak a website design and beautify this space.
